The term SEAL is a military acronym for a US Navy Special Operations Commando, the acronym referring to their operations across SEa Air and Land. SEALs are the US Special Operations Command's primary maritime force. Where other Special Operations Forces may have trained Combat Divers (US Army combat divers graduate from the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare School Underwater Warfare Center's Combat Diver Course, Marine SpecOps go to the Naval Dive Training Center in Panama City, Florida for dive training), the Navy has the BUDS course (Basic Underwater Demolitions School) for the SEALS. SEALs are trained primarily for direct action and special reconnaissance operations, athough specific teams are trained for counter-terrorism operations (notably Team 6), hostage rescue, and other operations.
